In English:
With a past in bands like Psychic TV and Coil, Drew McDowall is something of a legend. The experimental electronic musician crafts beautiful compositions that feels haunted, as well as spiritual. His latest album was called “majestic” by one reviewer — and that’s exactly what we expect from this concert evening!
An artist who refuses to conform.
Drew McDowall, the legendary electronic musician with roots in the groups Poems, Psychic TV, and Coil, creates meditative compositions that feel both ghostly and transcendent. In his labyrinthine soundscapes, sounds are deconstructed and sampled, coming together into something that is at once eerie and beautiful. Listening to his music feels like being on the right path — and completely disoriented at the same time.
Drew McDowall grew up in 1970s Scotland and became part of Glasgow’s underground scene at a young age. He formed the band Poems with his then-wife Rose McDowall and later, alongside avant-garde figures like Genesis P-Orridge, David Tibet, Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson, John Balance, and countless others, helped define the industrial music scene. He would go on to collaborate with Psychic TV and become part of the cult band Coil. Over the years, Drew McDowall has also worked with artists such as composers Kali Malone and Caterina Barbieri, Varg of Burzum, Danish noise artist Puce Mary, and the experimental pop duo LEYA. Since 2015, Drew McDowall has released music as a solo artist — most recently the album ‘A Thread, Silvered and Trembling’ (2024), described as “absolutely majestic” by the cultural magazine The Quietus. We expect nothing less when the iconic and boundary-pushing musician visits ALICE this September!
