I 1970’erne levede avantgardetrompetisten Don Cherry med sin kunstnerkone Moki og børnene Eagle-Eye, David og Neneh Cherry i et frijazz-kollektiv i Sverige. Organic Music Societies er en fejring af parrets utopiske liv og praksis.
I en gratis heldagskoncert på Bellahøj Friluftsscene genbesøger Gong Tomorrow 2021 denne hidtil underbelyste og særdeles udflippede æra, hvor multikulturel musik, pædagogik, performance, aktivisme og billedkunst smeltede sammen med hverdagslivets madlavning og børnepasning.
Koncerterne samler centrale skikkelser fra perioden til sprudlende eksperimenter på tværs af genrer og kontinenter.
PROGRAM
Programmet byder på den første optræden nogensinde for gruppen NU Music 4, der forener Mats Gustafsson (The Thing, Fire! Orchestra m.fl.) og Goran Kajfeš i en kvartet med to tidligere Cherry-samarbejdspartnere: Svenske Christer Bothén og den tyrkiske percussionist Okay Temiz.
Oplev også en åben øvesession for Bengt Bergers gruppe Cool Funeral Beer Band samt en særkoncert med Exotic Sin featuring Neneh Cherry. Og som hyldest til Don og Moki Cherrys musikpædagogik leder David Ornette Cherry en række workshops i samarbejde med lokale unge, Musikfællesskabet EKHO EKHO samt JazzDanmark. Sammen optræder de som et helt dugfrisk kollektiv under navnet Organic Nation Ensemble.

Organic Music Societies er støttet af Nordisk Kulturfond, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, samt offentlige midler fra New York City Department of Cultural Affairs i samarbejde med New York City Council. OM GONG TOMORROW
Gong Tomorrow 2021 handler om social lytning. At lytte er den ultimative empatiske handling. Lytning kan skabe skælv i vores selvforståelser og åbne vores forståelseshorisonter. Under otte dages festival fejrer Gong Tomorrow 2021 musik, der udvider bevidstheden og tegner konturerne af en anden verden.
Gong Tomorrow er en årlig festival for ny eksperimenterende musik og lydkunst. Den præsenterer koncerter i ekstraordinære rammer, musikalske eksperimenter, genremøder, samtaler og workshops samt tværæstetiske samarbejder mellem lokale såvel som internationale kunstnere. Gong Tomorrow 2021 finder sted fra den 3. til den 10. september på en række forskellige københavnske koncertsteder i samarbejde med ALICE cph.

Exhuberant free jazz experiments at Bellahøj in the utopian spirit of Don and Moki Cherry.
In the early 1970s, avantgarde jazz trumpeter Don Cherry was living with his artist wife Moki and their children Eagle-Eye, David og Neneh Cherry in a free jazz commune in Southern Sweden. Organic Music Societies celebrates their utopian experiments. In cooperation with NY curators Blank Forms, Gong Tomorrow will revisit a previously overlooked yet creatively abundant era in which multicultural music and art was seamlessly incorporated into everyday life. This series of concerts unites several central figures from the 1970’s in a spontaneous and liberating musical setting, crossing musical genres as well as continents.
Gong Tomorrow is an annual festival for new experimental music and sound art, featuring concerts in extraordinary settings, musical experiments, genre crossovers, talks and workshops, and cross-aesthetic meetings between local as well as international artists. Gong Tomorrow 2021 takes place from 3rd to 10th September in various locations across Copenhagen in cooperation with ALICE cph.
