Distortion Girls:
Distortion Girls består af Tanja Vesterbye Jessen på guitar og trommemaskine, Marie Aarup Jensen på guitar og vokal, og Marc Kellaway på orgel. Det københavnske band har i mere end et årti været kendt for deres dragende koncerter kendetegnet ved langstrakt hypnotisk støjrock drevet af kølige melodier, glitrende guitarflader, dronende orgel, dekonstruerede trommebeats og minimalistisk vokal.
Sideløbende med en række sideprojekter og soloudgivelser, fra Tanja Vesterbye Jessen og Marie Aarup Jensens doom-duo Fisse til Marc Kellaways elektroniske eksperimenter under eget navn, udgav Distortion Girls sidste år albummet ‘Afterparty’, som er en samling remixes og coverversioner af numre fra debuten ‘Party’ fra 2015. For tiden arbejder bandet på ny musik til et kommende album – og på ALICE får du noget af det at høre. Byd velkommen til Distortion Girls og deres hypnotiserende og spøgelsesagtige støjrock
NO GOD:
NO GOD startede som et projekt udi kunsten at spille no wave, som den blev spillet i New York i slutningen af halvfjerdserne. Med det som grundlag har det danske orkester udviklet deres egen genre, som de kalder Direct Action Music. Grundtanken bag er, at alle nye numre skal opføres for første gang ved en koncert. Altså er kompositionerne aftalt musikerne imellem, men ikke blevet øvet sammen på forhånd. På ALICE vi altså høre spritnye NO GOD-musiknumre, som aldrig er blevet spillet før, der henter inspiration fra alt fra Miles Davis’ elektriske periode, US Maples’ noiserock og japansk tradition. NO GOD gæster ALICE som kvartet. Ud over Jens Valo på guitar og vokal, Carl Christian Tofte på trommer og vokal samt Jacob Leth på bas og vokal, medvirker Miloud Carl Sabri på trompet og tangenter. Til sammen har de været med i bands såsom Kliche, De Må Være Belgiere, Obstinate Esther, Nasa Dude, GRIND, Amstrong og The Astroids Galaxy Tour samt diverse jazz sammenhænge. Orkesteret har spillet koncerter i både ind- og udland, på alt fra Vega til Mayhem, Øst for Paradis, Atlas, Rote Flora i Hamborg og Noise Fest i Leipzig. Men ikke siden 2018. Get ready for a night of noise, minimalism, chaos, and party when ALICE welcomes two brilliant Danish bands who each bring their own brand of sonic disruption: Distortion Girls and NO GOD!
Distortion Girls:
Distortion Girls is made up of Tanja Vesterbye Jessen on guitar and drum machine, Marie Aarup Jensen on guitar and vocals, and Marc Kellaway on organ. For over a decade, this Copenhagen-based band has captivated audiences with their entrancing live shows characterized by sprawling, hypnotic noise rock, icy melodies, shimmering guitar textures, droning organs, deconstructed drum beats, and minimalist vocals.
Alongside a range of side projects, from Tanja Vesterbye Jessen and Marie Aarup Jensen’s doom duo Fisse to Marc Kellaway’s electronic experiments under his own name, Distortion Girls released the album ‘Afterparty’ last year. It’s a collection of remixes and cover versions of tracks from their 2015 debut ‘Party’. Currently, the band is working on new material for an upcoming album — and at ALICE, you’ll get a sneak peek. NO GOD:
NO GOD began as an exploration into the art of playing no wave music, as it emerged in late-1970s New York. Building on that foundation, the Danish ensemble has since carved out their own genre, which they call Direct Action Music. The concept is simple but radical: every new piece is performed live for the first time at the concert itself. The compositions are discussed and agreed upon among the musicians, but never rehearsed together beforehand. That means we’ll be hearing brand-new NO GOD- tracks at ALICE, drawing on inspirations as diverse as Miles Davis’ electric period, US Maple’s noise rock, and Japanese musical traditions. Expect something minimalist, avant-garde, chaotic, and celebratory when this adventurous ensemble hits ALICE in October.
NO GOD will perform as a quartet, featuring Jens Valo on guitar and vocals, Carl Christian Tofte on drums and vocals, Jacob Leth on bass and vocals, and Miloud Carl Sabri on trumpet and keys. Between them, the members have been part of bands such as Kliche, De Må Være Belgiere, Obstinate Esther, Nasa Dude, GRIND, Amstrong, and The Asteroids Galaxy Tour as well as various jazz collaborations. The group has played across Denmark and abroad, at venues ranging from Vega to Mayhem, East of Eden, Atlas, Rote Flora in Hamburg, and Noise Fest in Leipzig. But not since 2018.
