claire rousay

In English:
Dive into an ambient evening with enchanted everyday objects, fragmented field recordings and Occitan folk music as ALICE present claire rousay, Sourdure and Adela Mede for a triple bill this April.
claire rousay
Texas-based claire rousay’s ambient compositions zero in on personal emotions and the minutiae of everyday life – voicemails, haptics, environmental recordings, stopwatches, whispers and conversations. With her quietly devastating music she enchants the ordinary, as Pitchfork and NPR has respectively described her sound.
As a percussionist turned sound artist, rousay has put out no less than 19 releases since 2019, exploring everything from ASMR and processed field recordings to tender piano arrangements and saccharine hyperpop. She has performed with musicians such as Ken Vandermark and Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten, and released music on a range of labels such as Astral Spirits and American Dreams. We can’t wait to welcome this superb experimental artist for an eclectic ambient set at AULA this April.
Sourdure
Under the moniker Sourdure, Ernest Bergez works within a hybrid sound field, combining raw electronics (modular synths, feedback), acoustic instruments (violin, voice, foot percussion), and non-musical sounds (field recording, spoken voice). As a guideline, he keeps an underlying effort to melt experiment into popular music and vice versa, using traditional songs and dancehall themes from the French Massif Central mountain area as the starting point. Sung in French or in Occitan, his songs give an odd sense of temporal distortion, blowing apart the frontiers between the old and the new, original and traditional.
Adela Mede
Adela Mede is a Slovakian experimental musician. There is closeness and distance on her stunning, detail-rich debut album “Szabadság”, as she layers ambient compositions with field recordings from Mede’s childhood, digital vocal manipulations, and minimalistic electronica and folkloric melodies. On “Szabadság” (Hungarian for freedom, or vacation), Mede documents her inner homecoming journey as she grew up near the Slovak-Hungarian borders and then left her homeland for London, where she studied at Goldsmiths. We can’t wait to present Adela Mede at ALICE, where she performs from her debut album.
