Obey Cobra (UK)
Often described as shrouded in mystery by audiences and critics alike, Obey Cobra is a hypnotic blend of ethereal melodies and mind-bending rhythms.
Formed in 2016 as a studio project between drummer Stephen Jones and guitarist Gareth John Day, they were quickly joined by vocalist K Wood and multi instrumentalist Rory Coughlan-Allen. Each member of this four-piece bringing a unique sonic influence to the collective, their journey began in the underground music scene of Cardiff.
Here they honed their craft, drawing inspiration from the psychedelic sounds of the ’60s and ’70s while infusing a modern edge. As such they have created a sound all their own. Their musical style is always experimental; blending post punk and kosmische sensibilities with electronic industrial sounds, forming the backdrop for K Wood to deliver spoken word, pop crooning and rage-fuelled vocal performances. Obey Cobra’s sonic explorations take listeners on a kaleidoscopic journey, where swirling guitars and dreamlike vocals intertwine with pulsating repetition.
‘Mwg Drwg’ – their second album – was released in May 2024 through Rocket Recordings, and their live performances have been described as a transcendent experience- a convergence of genre-hopping musical prowess and visual artistry that transports audiences into an otherworldly realm.
Taxidermy (DK)
Taxidermy is a Copenhagen-based experimental noise rock/post-punk band, consisting of Osvald Reinhold (vocals, guitar), Toke Brejning Frederiksen (guitar), Joachim Lorch- Schierning (bass), and Johan Knutz Haavik (drums).
Inspired by the tight nervous post- punk of the late ’70s and ’80s, the dissonant angular experiments of math-rock and no wave, as well as the minimalism and vitality of post-hardcore and emo, Taxidermy delves into the cryptic and disorienting, the claustrophobic and surreal, in their sonic explorations of the disquiet of contemporary existence. Fronted by Reinhold’s frenetic, tension-fuelled voice – and through intricate, unpredictable compositions, raw and visceral textures, broad dynamic range, and intense emotional delivery – Taxidermy challenges the listener to confront the discomfort of the unknown, somewhat akin to contemporary acts such as Black Midi, Sprain, and Metz.
