Extended improvisations and Kurdish folk songs
Drones and extended improvisations are on the menu when the Belgian free-folk project Razen takes the stage at Råhuset. Italian-based Ashti Abdo opens the evening with intense and captivating songs from the Kurdish songbook.
Razen (BE)
Razen is a Brussels-based ensemble that has, since 2010, explored the intersection of minimalism, psychedelic music, Early Music, and free-folk. Founded by Brecht Ameel and Kim Delcour, the group has evolved over time with a shifting lineup.
With a focus on improvisation and the use of acoustic string and wind instruments, Razen creates long, droning passages and rich soundscapes that point both backward to the archaic roots of music and forward to new, experimental forms. Their latest release, Rain Without Rain on the German label TAL, has been described as “Suicide meets Hildegard von Bingen.”
Razen has performed at festivals and venues across Europe – from Berghain in Berlin to Fylkingen in Stockholm, and small village churches in Belgium.

Ashti Abdo (IT)
Ashti Abdo is a Kurdish musician born in Aleppo and raised in Efrin, where his love for music began early in life. Surrounded by the sounds of nature and the stories and songs of the elders in his village, he started singing lullabies to his younger sister and playing the tembûr (saz) with his brother – a traditional Kurdish string instrument that remains central to his music.
Abdo crafts an intimate and emotionally charged sound world, where melancholy and hope blend into simple yet powerful melodies. His playing on the tembûr conveys both closeness and longing, and his songs often reflect themes of identity, exile, and belonging – with both personal and universal resonance.

Razen (BE)

Ashti Abdo (IT)
