Combining U.S.-centric skate culture and their own idiosyncratic Sowetan identity with remarkable self-awareness and a sense of humor, the Johannesburg-based trio of Thula, Jazz and Abdula honor the legacy of their homeland's rebellious, vibrant spirit by smashing out a racket that would do Dead Kennedys proud. With roots in gospel, kwaito, hip-hop, R&B and South Africa’s underground alternative music tradition, the band has forged an identity that bridges local cultural roots with the global punk tradition. They don’t just make noise – they make space for voices too rarely heard in punk.
