Art in a Day: Henrik Vibskovs Parade

Den 24. juni forvandler Københavns seks kunsthaller i et døgn byen til en scene for performancekunsten, når Art in a Day løber af stablen med et summende program af gratis kunstoplevelser. Det stjernespækkede program byder på internationale og danske kunstnere, som blandt andet tæller en performance af Henrik Vibskov.

Vibskov arrangerer en parade, hvor musik, kunst og mode møder byens borgere som en samlet helhed. Paraden, der består af syngende performere klædt i kostumer specielt designet til lejligheden af Vibskov, bliver en ‘helende gåtur’, hvor fortiden genlyder i nutiden og opleves som en fremtidsprofeti. Med sine kostumer, som er karakteriseret af en grafisk silhuet og en ensartet farveskala, bringer Vibskov en marcherende gruppe ud i Københavns gader, hvis påklædning minder om 1800-tallets kvinders, når de bar fisk til havnen ved Gl Strand fra det nordlige København.

Paraden vækker mindelser om disse kvinders færd og deres nedarvede forbindelse til havet og fremstår som en hyldest til disse og de matriarkalske strukturer, som de frembringer. Paraden inviterer byens borgere til at følge trop, betragte eller bare nyde det magiske, spøgelsesagtige nærvær, som teaterkostumerne sammen med melodierne skaber omkring dem. Optoget bevæger sig gennem byen mod havnen, forbinder den ene performance med den næste og understreger på denne vis, hvordan afstande i byen og på vandet kan opleves forskelligt, når de opleves i et anderledes tempo.

On 24 June, Copenhagen’s six contemporary art institutions are turning the city into a stage for performance art when Art in a Day kicks off with a programme buzzing with free art experiences. The star-studded programme features international and Danish artists, including a performance by Henrik Vibskov.

Vibskov creates a parade where music, art, and fashion meet people directly. The parade, composed by performers singing and dressed up in costumes tailored by Vibskov becomes a ‘healing walk’ where the past is echoed in the present and experienced as a future prophecy. By creating costumes defined by a graphic silhouette and a monochromatic palette, Vibskov brings into the streets of Copenhagen a marching group whose dress code recalls that of women in the nineteenth century when they used to carry fish to the harbour of Gl. Strand from northern Copenhagen.

The parade echoes these women’s journey and their ancestral connection to the sea, paying homage to these elements and to the matriarchal structures they foster. The parade invites the people of Copenhagen to tag along, observe, or simply enjoy the magic ghostly presence that the theatrical costumes and melodies create around them. The group of people move around the city towards the harbour, linking one performance to the next one, emphasising how distances in the city and the water could feel different when experienced at a different pace.
