A night of deconstructed sound from fractal planes.

Organised in Collaboration with KoncertKirken

Jenny Gräf (US/DK) is an artist and musician based in Copenhagen. She activates peripheral places and states through sound composition, improvisation and participatory works. Her recent works deal with the multi-sensory aspects of sound and how relations and ecologies can be sensed and enacted. She has developed a body of instruments called speaker-instruments, a spatialized “choir” of porcelain speaker-instruments, that filter, translate and voice sound sources variously due to their design and performed manipulations, reflects an interest in deconstructing the enclosed, control over sound that the conventional speaker offers, replacing it instead with unpredictability, interference, noise and the possibility for performers and audience to manipulate the transduction of sound in live performances.

She has performed at Copenhagen Contemporary, in Copenhagen Art Week, Festival of Endless Gratitude and in the VegaArts Series. She is currently completing a PhD in Sound at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art and the University of Chicago.

MV Carbon is a Brooklyn-based, intermedia artist, composer, and musician, focusing on the transformative and interpretive interrelationship between sound, image, space, and place. Carbon interprets sound as a material that fluctuates physically, and perceptively. Frequency, light, and voice entrain metaphor, as, interference, ambience, and feedback expose the conditions and variables of space, illusion, and potential. Carbon summons the integration of objects and sonic space, while challenging their symbiotic relationship.

Carbon has exhibited multimedia environments, and films, including solo exhibitions at Tomato Mouse Gallery (NYC), IDIO Gallery (NYC), and Heliopolis (NYC), amongst a variety of group exhibitions and screenings including Cafe Oto (UK), D'Amelio Gallery (NY), Essex Flowers (NY), Knockdown Center (NY), Fridman Gallery (NY), and.E.S.P. TV (NY). Carbon has solo and collaborative records released on labels including Kill Rock Stars / 5RC, Atavistic Records, Discombobulate, Ecstatic Peace, Chaikin Records, Hanson, Load Records, No Fun Productions, Various Artists, and Veglia. She has been awarded residencies from Bemis Center (NE), Clocktower Gallery (NY), EMS (SE), Issue Project Room (NY), Koncertkirken (DK), Pioneer Works (NY), Q02 (BE), and Roulette (NY).

Recent fellowships include the NYSCA/NYFA for Music/Sound (2022), the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics (2023), and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, Sound Art and Experimental Music Fellowship (2024).
