Denne eftermiddag i KoncertKirken bliver en forrygende fremvisning af japansk kultur. Yasukazu Kano er en kendt shinobue (japansk bambus-tværfløjte) spiller. Han vil præsentere shinobuens historie og spille stykker til at understøtte fortællingen. Derefter vil der være et samarbejde med 3 herboende kunstnere, der alle har noget med Japan at gøre. Sammen med shakuhachi (bambusfløjte) spilleren Kiku Day vil de spille både danske og japanske melodier og improviserer sammen. Til det vil Keiko Tamaru danse og Mayu Kamiya lave kalligrafi.

Yasukazu Kano
(Shinobue player, instructor and music producer)
Yasukazu Kano was born in Tokyo in 1963. After studying in New York, he rediscovered his Japanese cultural roots and returned to Japan. In 1987, he joined the renowned taiko ensemble Kodo, performing more than 1,000 concerts in twenty countries, including Carnegie Hall.
Since leaving Kodo in 1997, Kano has dedicated himself to developing the artistic possibilities of the ancient bamboo flute, the shinobue, creating his own distinctive playing method. He made his major-label debut with Yamaha in 2005 and has since released CDs, instructional materials and books.
Kano has performed more than 2,000 concerts in over thirty countries and has composed music for television, film and theatre, including NHK's NIPPON NO WAGEI. He also leads shinobue workshops worldwide and continues to promote the instrument through performances, collaborations and educational videos.

Keiko Tamaru
(dancer)
Keiko Tamaru is a dancer, expressive artist and founder of Planet Dance, a movement practice inspired by nature, Ki and the harmony of life.
Raised in an environment rooted in natural healing and music, she has developed a unique approach to movement that reconnects body, mind and spirit. She regularly collaborates with improvising musicians and artists in Japan and internationally, creating spontaneous and immersive performances.
Based in Kyoto, she also leads workshops and talks on Planet Dance, conscious living and hemp culture.

Mayu Kamiya
(kalligrafi)
Mayu Kamiya, born and raised in Aichi, Japan, has lived in Aalborg, Denmark since 2017. She works across interpreting, teaching and cultural consulting, helping people bridge cultural differences and express themselves more authentically.
Through Japanese calligraphy, philosophy and communication, she creates workshops, seminars and consulting projects that encourage dialogue, creativity and collaboration across cultures.

Kiku Day
(shakuhachi)
Kiku Day is an ethnomusicologist and internationally acclaimed shakuhachi player. She studied the traditional honkyoku repertoire in Tokyo for eleven years and has dedicated her career to both preserving the instrument's traditions and expanding its contemporary repertoire. She also crafts some of her own bamboo instruments.
Kiku performs worldwide, including at Carnegie Hall and the Royal Festival Hall, and has taught shakuhachi for more than twenty-five years. She holds a PhD in ethnomusicology and has published extensively on the shakuhachi.
She founded the European Shakuhachi Society and the European Shakuhachi Summer School, and chaired the Executive Committee of the World Shakuhachi Festival in London in 2018.
