Mød den legendariske skotske vokalist, performer og radikale korleder Maggie Nicols til en artist talk på RMC modereret af komponisten og sangeren Tanja Schlander.
På RMC kan du under Vinterjazz få chancen for at møde den virtuose skotske danser, performer og free-jazz vokalist, som foruden sine egne kunstneriske frembringelser er bredt anerkendt for sine evner som radikal korleder og musikpædagog i London siden 1960’erne.
Om Maggie Nicols�
Maggie Nicols blev som frit improviserede vokalist medlem af Londons legendariske Spontaneous Music Ensemble i 1968. Derefter blev hun aktiv som arrangør af stemmeworkshops, og involverede sig dybt i lokalt forankret eksperimentelt teater. Senere sluttede hun sig til gruppen Centipede, ledet af den britiske pianist og komponist Keith Tippets, og i 1977 dannede hun sammen med musikeren og komponisten Lindsay Cooper den berømte improvisationsgruppe Feminist Improvising Group.
Få år efter startede hun en performance-gruppe for kvinder, Contradictions, som beskæftigede sig med improvisation og andre former for performance i en række forskellige medier, herunder musik og dans. I årenes løb har Nicols samarbejdet med andre kvindegrupper, såsom Changing Women Theatre Group, og skrevet musik til en tv-serie i den bedste sendetid, Women in Sport.
I dag arbejder hun fortsat med musik og teater, enten i samarbejde med en række kunstnere (Irene Schweitzer, Joelle Leandre, Ken Hyder, Caroline Kraabel) eller solo.

Meet legendary Scottish vocalist, performer and radical choir leader Maggie Nicols at an artist talk at RMC hosted by composer and singer Tanja Schlander.
During Vinterjazz at RMC, you can get the chance to meet the virtuoso Scottish dancer, performer and free jazz vocalist who, in addition to her own artistic creations, is widely recognised for her skills as a radical choral conductor and music educator in London since the 1960s.
About Maggie Nicols
As a freely improvised vocalist, Maggie Nicols joined London's legendary Spontaneous Music Ensemble in 1968. She then became active as an organiser of voice workshops and became deeply involved in community-based experimental theatre. She later joined the group Centipede, led by British pianist and composer Keith Tippets, and in 1977 she formed the famous Feminist Improvising Group with musician and composer Lindsay Cooper.
A few years later, she started a performance group for women, Contradictions, which explored improvisation and other forms of performance in a variety of media, including music and dance. Over the years, Nicols has collaborated with other women's groups, such as the Changing Women Theatre Group, and scored a prime-time TV series, Women in Sport.
Today, she continues to work in music and theatre, either in collaboration with a number of artists (Irene Schweitzer, Joelle Leandre, Ken Hyder, Caroline Kraabel) or solo.

Tanja works in the fields of singing, sound art, noise and healing and has been working with site-specific real sound for more than 20 years.
