Join us on Friday, September 26th from 4:00 PM as we celebrate the release of the book Bivirkninger, which brings together hundreds of previously unpublished digital drawings by artist Svend Sømod.
At the book launch, it will be possible to purchase the book at a special reduced launch price. Throughout the event, a wide selection of cocktails will be served at reasonable prices.
After the reception, the festivities will continue at Inferno, Istedgade 36.
Bivirkninger puts the viewer’s visual and perceptual apparatus to the test. The underlying structures of some motifs are almost impossible to dissect, while the whole appears immediate and harmonious—whereas other pages cut sharply into the viewer’s visual cortex.
Each page is a collage of works. The layout shifts radically from page to page, often based on mathematical systems in a swirl of perceptual overload.
Sømod’s art can be seen as an exploration of how the brain processes and responds to patterns, repetitions, and complex systems. His practice does not seek simplification, but rather opens up to the intense, often overwhelming beauty that arises in the encounter between human consciousness and machine-calculated forms.
The book Bivirkninger is published by Cult Pump with support from the Arne V. Schlesch Foundation and the New Carlsberg Foundation.
