Shit Show #2 ∆•Kejserbarn•∆

Kejserbarn is a Copenhagen based artist working in different media to transform the experience of mental illness during capitalist oppression, into works of art.

The exhibition at Heaps Good Café is a selection of works that emerged when the artist experienced a new explorative creativity, following a great loss of identity.

The artists words about the exhibition:

Being a creative and fragile person in a society built on financial growth is fucking exhausting! Choosing a life of the arts is seen as reckless, unproductive and, yes brave, but unrealistic. We creatives must prove ourselves not to be condemned. To “make it” therefore was always a big motivator for me. In 2020 as the corona pandemic took hold, my band was close to a record deal, and making it seemed within grasp. As our band suddenly fell apart, I found it was not only the band that was gone, it was also my sense of identity and purpose. In this loss of identity I discovered I didn’t actually want to “make it” anymore. This led to a whole new world of creative exploration.

The artworks displayed at Heaps Good café are products of coping mechanisms, to keep anxiety at bay. They are also a product of unproductive creativity, and a celebration of doing something, simply because you want to!

The artworks are made from primarily collected beach-stones and thrifted yarn.
