Dive into the diverse possibilities of the saxophone as Final Descent and Basement present two solo saxophonists, each exploring the instrument in new, unexpected directions – from Julius Gabriel’s shimmering soundscapes and rhythmic sequences to Zeki Jindyl’s emotive R’n’B accompanied by heavy, electronic saxophone effects.

Julius Gabriel (DE)

The German experimentalist Julius Gabriel has created a work with his latest solo album, Tales from the Subterranean, where, despite the minimalist instrumentation, the only thing missing in the soundscape is the shimmering sound textures and rhythmic sequences from the solitary saxophone.

The blending of influences from jazz, drone, noise, and Berlin’s techno scene forms a deeply idiosyncratic sonic universe, part raw primal energy and part meditative beauty, waltzing between euphoria, transcendence, and gripping anxiety.

Look forward to a concert where whispering overtones, finger-played valve percussion, and hypnotic ostinatos will send you into a trance, and where musical and technical complexity appears as effortlessly pure primal force.

Zeki Jindyl (DK)

Emotive R’n’B and post-rock meet doom metal and cacophonic noise on Zeki Jindyl’s debut solo album. The Copenhagen-based saxophonist, known from Caktus and Narcosatanicos, as well as numerous guest performances and spontaneous collaborations, has crafted the album STRETCH//RELATIONS (Pink Cotton Candy), where a multitude of genres effortlessly merge, constantly walking the fine line between extremes – between the sorrowful and the ecstatic, the grand and the minimalist, the noisy and the quiet.

At this concert, Jindyl will perform his solo material in a minimalist setting, using only his EWI (an electronic saxophone), effect pedals, and his voice. Expect an intimate, experimental set drawing on ambient soundscapes, melodic improvisation, and moments of intense, cathartic release.
