Træd ind i en ny lydverden, hvor publikum får et indblik i østasiatiske musikalske udtryk i mødet med improvisation og elektronik.
Wooli er en avantgarde folkemusikduo dannet af den taiwanske pipa-spiller Fan-Qi Wu og den norske trommeslager Michael Lee Sørenmo. Siden deres debut i Oslo i april 2024 har duoen optrådt over hele Europa på festivaler som Vestafor Festival, Aarhus Jazz Festival, Babel Sound Festival og (s)Nodi Festival. Deres første album med samme navn, Wooli, udkom i marts 2026.
Wooli henter inspiration fra østasiatisk traditionel folkemusik og den udtryksfulde frihed i fri improvisation. Kernen i projektet er et ønske om at genfortolke og transformere kulturarv og engagere sig i traditionen - ikke som en fast form, men som en levende, udviklende kraft. Deres musik formes gennem improvisation og en fælles nysgerrighed for lyd.

Cph Jazz Festival 2026 i Union:
I Union inviterer vi til en række eklektiske koncerter, som på hver deres måde afsøger jazzens grænseområder. Du skal med andre ord ikke forvente dig traditionel jazz, men derimod en rejse ned til jazzens globale rødder.

Step into a new world of sound, and experience East Asian musical expressions crossed with improvisation and electronics.
Wooli is an avant-garde folk duo formed by Taiwanese pipa player Fan-Qi Wu and Norwegian drummer Michael Lee Sørenmo. Since their debut in Oslo in April 2024, the duo has performed across Europe at festivals such as Vestafor Festival, Aarhus Jazz Festival, Babel Sound Festival, and (s)Nodi Festival. Their first album self-titled Wooli, was released the 13th of March 2026.
​Wooli draws inspiration from East Asian traditional and folk music and the expressive freedom of free improvisation. At the heart of the project is a desire to reinterpret and transform cultural heritage, engaging with tradition not as a fixed form but as a living, evolving force. Their music is shaped through improvisation, real-time dialogue, and a shared curiosity for sound.

In Union, we invite you to enjoy a series of exciting eclectic concerts, which explore the borderlands of jazz. In other words, you should not expect traditional jazz, but rather a journey to the global roots of jazz.
