“This is a voice you only need to hear once and you’ll never forget it” – BBC 6 Music
“Impressive… blasts of strangely affecting oral fanfare” — The Wire
“This is a voice you only need to hear once and you’ll never forget it” — Mary Anne Hobbs, BBC 6 Music
Mere info via www.jazz.dk

In English:
The Japanese vocal artist Hatis Noit creates music that feels like a calling from another world – raw, ritualistic, and deeply moving. With a vocal range that spans Bulgarian and Gregorian traditions, opera, avant-garde expression, and Japanese Gagaku, she shapes her own vocal universe beyond time and genre. We are proud to present this extraordinary artist as she performs her first-ever concert on Danish soil at Sankt Johannes Kirke.
“This is a voice you only need to hear once and you’ll never forget it” – BBC 6 Music
At the heart of Hatis Noit’s work lies an ancient connection to the voice as our most human instrument. The Japanese vocalist, who today is based in London, was 16 when she travelled through Nepal and one morning heard a female monk singing alone in a temple in Lumbini. It became a life-changing moment – a reminder of the voice’s power to connect human beings, nature and spirituality. The name “Hatis Noit” means “the stem of the lotus flower” in Japanese folklore – the part that links the living world to the spiritual one. Her sonic universe carries the same dual grounding: earthly and organic, yet dreamlike and almost otherworldly. With a vocal ability that reaches from Bulgarian and Gregorian chant to opera, avant-garde techniques and Gagaku, Hatis Noit forges a sound entirely her own.
Since her debut Illogical Dance (2018) and the critically acclaimed album Aura (2022), Hatis Noit has collaborated with artists such as Matmos, Jlin, William Basinski, Laraaji and Armand Hammer. Her works have been reimagined in numerous reworks, and she has performed on stages across the world – from Mutek to Southbank Centre, from David Lynch’s takeover at Manchester International Festival to appearances throughout Europe’s art and music scenes. This February, we are proud to present the first concert on Danish soil with Hatis Noit. Don’t miss an evening where the acoustics of Sankt Johannes Kirke merge with Hatis Noit’s extraordinary voice in an almost sacred experience.
