Foodman (JP)
⻝品まつり a.k.a foodman a.k.a.
In English
Kiki Hitomi and Shigeru Ishihara aka WaqWaq Kingdom’s endless range of stylistic adventures sees them drawing lines between traditional Japanese and contemporary electronic, between Jamaican dancehall and 8-bit techno, between African polyrhythms and experimental music, with plenty more helping to color a powerful, vibrant palette.
Shigeru Ishihara aka DJ Scotch Egg - has been a distinctive alien orbiting the dance music galaxy for over a decade, releasing radiantly unpredictable solo records through the legendary and now defunct experimental label Load Records, and performing as a member of British post-rock band Seefeel. DJ Scotch Egg also performed with the collective Nyege Nyege at the Gong Tomorrow Festival last year. Vocalist og lyricist Kiki Hitomi is formerly a member of King Midas Sound (along with The Bug and Roger Robinson), and co-founded iconic Japanese dubstep-noise duo Dokkebi Q. She is also a celebrated illustrator and designer, having created artwork for countless record sleeves and brands. Kiki created the vividly eye-popping artwork duos latest EP “Dokkoisho”. Prepare for a colorful and psychedelic night when WaqWaq Kingdom hits Valby Kulturhus this Spring.
Foodman
⻝品まつり a.k.a foodman a.k.a Takahide Higuci is an electronic music producer and visual artist based in Tokyo. His renaissance-like take on and knowledge of music is probably the most positively disconcerting trait of his work. He actively deals with several types of song forms, techno, house, pop, raw electronic percussion, concretism, footwork, ambient, with an incredibly creative, musical and wild take on melody, harmony, timbre and syncopation. Having said that, his work is not about variety as fetish or gratuitous imposition, but a profoundly cultured, intuitive and open take on the possibilities of all vocabularies that he observes and masters and deals with with precision. Foodman will play an opening set before WaqWaq Kingdom.
