Sweetie Talks: Peter van Langen

Hello sweeties, long time no see:) We’re very happy to invite you to a talk with graphic designer and movie director Peter van Langen, who’s operating at the intersection of music, culture and art. The topics of the talk will be on how and why nightclubs and dance floors function as platforms of resistance against the oppression and violence, that the queer community face. The talk will also touch on the historical perspective on dance floors from the past that have been fundamental for queer underground nightlife with a specific focus on Georgian club Bassiani. In addition, the talk will include a film screening of Peter’s short documentary ‘Midnight Frontier’ from 2020. The documentary tells the story of activists that stand at the frontline of LGBTQI+ activism in Georgia, and how Bassiani, and their queer nights Horoom Nights, form their fort of resistance to homophobic violence. The documentary won ‘Best LGBT Short Documentary’ at New Renaissance Film Festival in 2020.
