MAX SYEDTOLLAN
Max Syedtollan works across music, moving image and text to create meandering, convoluted and often funny pieces existing in some sui generis margin between genres. Echoes of folk song and post-punk gestures bubble to the surface; ‘jazzy’ interludes lapse into endlessly modulating hoedowns... it’s an eclectic ride, belying a youth misspent torrenting discographies. All the while possessing a certain ‘millennial maximalism’, Syedtollan’s work also radiates disarming warmth and conviviality; inviting us inside to join in the fun. Max released two albums on GLARC as Horse Whisperer (The Fifth Season (2016); Planctae (2019)) before his first release under his own name in 2021 with Four Assignments (and other pieces).

BRUNNERA
Brunnera (formerly Dahlia) makes fast and playful dance music which constantly teeters on the edge of falling to bits. Short ideas are taken apart and run through tape-warped variations while careering along at 174bpm, and the resulting propulsive rhythms are just enough to cling on to. A recent string of live dates at the end of last year culminated in a show at Cafe Oto using a small set of effects and buttons to loosen the tunes. A forthcoming self-titled LP on Kit Records showcases a range of elastic dancefloor music featuring guest vocals from GLARC alumni such as Luki. A tape of experiments and edits will be available as a tour exclusive for all European dates.

BOOSTERHOOCH
han arrives to experimental sound making from the star studded world of community radio DJing. A regular in Glaswegian clubs (copy generally features the term “local hero”), Boosterhooch’s production is focused on trying to make dance music without following any of dance music’s conventions, the result being a disconcerting meandering through the weirdest midi sounds that can be drawn forth. Her recent tape release on GLARC is conceptualised around the audio output of a fictional Institute of Ecoterrorism - tannoy calls to action, cautionary tales, and hold music from a tired a-line skirt wearing secretary in a drop-ceilinged office.
