Polychrome is pleased to present an evening of two performances, by Victoria Shen & Jenny Gräf.
Doors open at 17:00 for drinks and music and some time to browse in the shop. Live concerts from 19:00
About the performances:
Victoria Shen performs using her inventions such as Needle Nails, (record player styluses embedded into fingernails).
Jenny Gräf animates her porcelain electro-magnetic speakers, sounding the material voices that make up these deconstructed speakers.
Victoria Shen (US) is a sound artist, experimental music performer and inventor born and raised in San Francisco. Shen's sound practice is concerned with the spatiality/physicality of sound and its relationship to the human body. Her music features analog modular synthesizers (Flower Electronics), amplified objects and other self-built electronics. These instruments are designed to electronically reproduce chaotic systems which are highly sensitive to small changes in their initial parameters. The resulting music eschews conventions in harmony and rhythm in favor of extreme textures and gestural tones.
Jenny Gräf (DK/US) is an artist, performer and researcher who works collaboratively with people, creatures, and energies. She has been an active member of the mycelial underground networks of improvised musicians and instrument tweakers for many years working across borders, categories and genres. The work she performs on at Polychrome represents her current interests in the human body and energetic fields as compositional tools by entering into the electro-magnetic field of the instrument.
