The young Copenhagen-based music collective CRRNT Collective presents an evening of improvisational devotion and ever-shifting sonic landscapes at ALICE. Experience the formidable and album-fresh Slovenian avant-folk trio Širom, the virtuosic composer and turntablist Mariam Rezaei, and CRRNT Collective’s own experimental seven-piece ensemble Undercurrent.

CRRNT Collective consists of seven musicians from seven different countries, all based in and connected through Copenhagen’s vibrant experimental music scene. Since 2022, the collective has hosted numerous concerts, released a dozen new records on their own label, and pursued a mission to create space for under-recognized art and connect it with the audience it deserves.

Širom:
A truly special experience awaits when the Slovenian trio Širom takes the stage. The three musicians — Ana Kravanja, Samo Kutin, and Iztok Koren — move elegantly between more than 20 instruments, many of them homemade, creating hypnotic compositions that slowly unfold like dreams you can sink into. Širom’s sound evokes associations with Slovenian folk, Far Eastern music, and various African traditions, while at the same time resonating with a cosmic and minimalist quality. With their newest and fifth album on the iconic Glitterbeat Records, Širom take yet another bold step into a musical universe where traditional ideas of folk music dissolve and reappear in new, unexpected forms. We look forward to welcoming the acclaimed trio back to ALICE for their second concert here.
“Širom fashion maximalist avant-garde soundscapes from antique acoustic instruments like the balafon and hurdy gurdy. Their artfully rootless roots music makes an impassioned statement both aesthetically and, more opaquely, politically too.” – Uncut

Undercurrent:
Undercurrent is the musical expression of CRRNT Collective – a band formed by the members of the collective itself. In Undercurrent, different musical roots intertwine to create a living, ever-changing sonic space. Here, free jazz, improvisation, lyrical storytelling, and experimental textures converge in a shared language that grows directly out of the group’s deep dedication to collective creation. Each of the ensemble’s seven musicians brings their own cultural heritage and artistic vision into the room, and every concert becomes an open work – an opportunity to explore new forms, listen to each other’s ideas, and create something that can only arise in the moment. Their sound moves from poetically quiet to powerfully explosive, always with a strong sense of presence and connection between the musicians. Undercurrent has performed both locally and internationally, and we are excited to welcome them to the ALICE stage.

Line-up:
Flavia Huarachi Jørgensen (BO/DK) – vocals, flute
Laura Zöschg (IT) – vocals, flute
Jon Sensmeier (DE) – tenor sax
Ben Rodney (UK) – trumpet
Luka Zabric (SI) – alto sax
Aurelijus Užameckis (LT) – double bass
Ivar Myrset Asheim (NO) – drums

Mariam Rezaei:
Award-winning composer, turntablist and performer Mariam Rezaei moves effortlessly between experimental contemporary music, free improvisation, mutant club and hip hop – and she does so with a virtuosity that has made international critics take notice. The Wire has described Rezaei as “one of the most technically gifted and creatively fearless artists using turntables as an instrument.” Using a digital vinyl system, she shapes an almost infinite catalogue of samples in real time, creating an expression that feels raw, playful, and futuristic. Alongside classic turntablist techniques such as scratching and beat-juggling, she has developed her own approaches, including controlling sine waves with the pitch slider. It is turntablism as composition. Rezaei has collaborated on numerous projects, including The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters with Mette Rasmussen, Turntable Trio with Evicshen and Maria Chávez, as well as Pat Thomas, Valentina Magaletti, Okkyung Lee, and many others. Her latest solo release, FRACTURED, has been praised by outlets such as Bandcamp Daily and The Quietus.

The concert is part of CRRNT Collectives 2026 concert-series & Vinterjazz 2026 – a nationwide festival taking place from January 30 to February 28.

The concerts are possible thanks to the support from Dansk Komponist forening, Københavns Kommune Musikudvalg, Koda Kultur and JazzDanmark.
