Final Descent: Juho Toivonen (fi)

Experience a hypnotic journey into the borderlands of sound with Finnish composer and sound artist Juho Toivonen. With an immersive and sensory approach to the piano, he crafts atmospheric, minimalist soundscapes at the intersection of sound art, improvisation, and composition.

The concert is part of the 144,000 concert series, which is Final Descents’ series of intimate performances in the Metronome’s dome hall with limited capacity. The ticket price includes free tea.

Juho Toivonen (FI)

Juho Toivonen’s critically acclaimed debut album Kasveille ja eläimille (2023) – released in collaboration between Futura Resistenza and Ultraääni – weaves improvisations on a detuned piano together with subtle synthesizer textures and field recordings. The music has been described as “achingly intimate yet universally resonant” (The Wire), and the carefully curated record store World of Echo highlights his ability to conjure “immersive environments that invite both contemplation and wonder.”

Beyond his solo work, Toivonen runs the experimental record label Akti Records and has collaborated with artists such as Loren Chasse (Aclod, Hive Mind Records, 2023), London-based bassist Otto Willberg, and Mika Rättö from the legendary avant-garde band Circle.

In April 2025, he will release Lapsikuninkaan fanfaari on the Gothenburg-based label and record store Discreet Music – a work exploring childhood imagination and memory through a unique fusion of lo-fi textures, playful compositions, and a broader instrumental palette.
