In connection with the duo’s new album, Al Wahem الوهم, the Swiss-Lebanese experimentalists Praed return to Copenhagen with their ecstatic fusion of Arabic party music, psychedelic jazz, and hypnotic techno.
Praed (LB)
The Swiss-Lebanese duo Praed have just released their sixth album, Al Wahem الوهم, and are marking the occasion with a return to Copenhagen, once again inviting local audiences into their captivating blend of hypnotic shaabi and ecstatic electronic music.
For two decades, the duo have pushed the boundaries of how far Arabic party music can be stretched. When Raed Yassin’s electronic, kaleidoscopic beats meet Paed Conca’s wailing clarinet, they open up a rich sonic landscape where Lebanese wedding music effortlessly draws from spiritual jazz, krautrock’s motorik rhythms, and techno’s driving trance. The result sits somewhere between ecstatic devotional music and gritty underground energy.
Since 2020, they have explored shaabi in an orchestral format with the releases PRAED Orchestra! and its follow-up The Dictionary of Lost Meanings (2025), which was described by The Wire as “blissfully swirling and mesmeric music". Now, Praed return to their original duo format with Al Wahem الوهم, where, across four extended tracks, they once again reinvent their potent and immersive electronic fusion, still sounding both timeless and entirely their own.
