Pink Cotton Candy Records is a small, friendly Copenhagen-based indie label - non-genre-based in our musical curation and committed to adventurous, emotionally resonant and free thinking music - releasing alternative, experimental music from our cherished local underground scene. We’re celebrating five years and twenty releases with a label night in Copenhagen at Stengade on October 2nd, and in Aarhus at Institut for X on October 9th, featuring performances by Homesickness, Quiet Sonia, and Ignacio Córdoba + dj set.
A lot has happened since Pink Cotton Candy Records was officially registered as a company in late 2020. We've released albums in the chamber-folk/post-rock vein with Quiet Sonia and Homesickness; in indie rock and post-punk with Deirdre and Taxidermy, respectively; in avant-pop and synth-pop with Chopper and Vamilla; and cross-genre experimental works by artists such as Bright Young Future, Tettix Hexer, Ignacio Córdoba, and Zeki Jindyl. And we’ve got more exciting things in store for the rest of 2025 and beyond.
PCC has a huge passion for music that has a singular aesthetic vision, feeling and language; that which draws selectively and meaningfully on the past an present, and dares to point towards the future; that which becomes its own artistic consciousness, an alive and breathing organism in it’s own eco-behavioral circuit.
At Stengade (Copenhagen) and Institut for X (Århus), three core acts from the Pink Cotton Candy roster will take the stage. Though somewhat under the radar, each of these artists has earned critical praise both nationally and internationally, and share a strong sense of artistic integrity and an uncompromising approach to their music.
Quiet Sonia:
Quiet Sonia is a Copenhagen-based chamber-rock/avant-folk ensemble that, at its fullest, comprises up to 10 musicians. Quiet Sonia plays big, sprawling yet intimate and highly dynamic music characterized by imaginative melodic songcraft, intricate detailled arrangements, sonic experimentation and a strong emotional core. With roots in the alternative folk tradition and the many branches of indie rock - from shoegaze and post-rock to post-punk and jangle pop - as well as traces of the musicians’ other passions (including jazz, ambient, and classical minimalism), Quiet Sonia creates a genre-defying sound, from pitch-black, anxious and somber to hopeful, dreamy and majestic. For these two shows, Quiet Sonia will perform in a duo format featuring Nikolaj Bruus (vocals, guitar) and Thea Thorborg (violin), presenting a set that includes new material from their forthcoming album.
Hailed by Danish music journalist Simon Staun as “a brave band that doesn’t stick to norms or fashion”, Quiet Sonias music has been praised as “a truly remarkable experience” (Buffa Blog, US), “smart and ambitious” (Motel Void, UK) and as a band with “depth and range in terms of their songwriting” (Electric Sound of Joy, UK). With Danish support solidified by a 2023 nomination for 'Best New Hope' and 'Rock Album of the Year' in the biggest Nordic music magazine, GAFFA, as well as the single ‘Sparks' in A rotation on Denmark's major alternative radio channel, P6 Beat, Quiet Sonia has also aroused international curiosity: Sun 13 (UK) concluded that “as far as guitarist music out of Denmark is concerned, there hasn’t been anything like the unfurling grandeur that Quiet Sonia create,” while Tuned Up (US) remarked, “it’s not what you’d expect from a Danish band.”

Homesickness:
Homesickness is a chamber-folk sextet framed around the Falstria/Copenhagen-based singer, musician, lyricist and artist Malthe J. Løvefod. In a trust-based and compassionate musical space, the group paints a varied sonic picture - drawing from experimental rock and jazz alongside various traditional forms of folk music - and using sound sources such as violin, cello, trompet, piano, chimes, and bells, in addition to the acoustic and electric guitar, drums and bass. Their music draws on a diverse array of influences, including the late '60s/early '70s Laurel Canyon folk scene, the mystical elements of British folk, “Laughing Stock”-era Talk Talk, and contemporary experimental avant-folk. Ideally, the compositions serve as intuitive artistic tools to mirror and stimulate conversations about mental health, spirituality, love, and relationships; a glimpse into a highly personal, vulnerable and sometimes almost devotional pursuit of emancipation, where light and love, pain and darkness, are unified into a cohesive aesthetic whole. On this occasion, Malthe will perform solo, including songs from a new album currently in the works.
In March, Homesickness released their second album – the critically acclaimed Anamnesis. According to Motel Void (UK), Anamnesis carries “a rich atmosphere that instantly reminded me of Shovel Dance Collective, Timber Rattle, Lankum, and even Robert Wyatt.” Passive Aggressive (DK) stated that with Anamnesis, Homesickness opens up “a larger world that is at once deep and infinite, specific and immediate,” calling the album “a thoughtful, healing, and poetic work in every sense.” Obscure Sound (US), who also praised Homesickness’ debut, describes Anamnesis as “a consuming, introspective tour-de-force of a listening experience.” Singles from the album have been played on WFUV, Slack City, Postcards from the Underground, and LYL Radio.

Ignacio Cordoba:
Ignacio Córdoba is a simple person from a small village in the mountains of Madrid (Spain) who lost touch with reality by touring the world with The Box, an electronic self-made god that render him electionless to the omnipotence of its oscillations. His sound combines influences from early electronic music ala BBC Radiophonic Workshop, ambient meditations of Oren Ambarchi, the delicate noise of Toshimaru Nakamura or the new experimentalism of Rashad Becker with his own poetic and magical approach. On this occasion, Ignacio will perform solo using the Quad-rod-phone.
The Quad-rod-phone is a brand new instrument invented and designed in collaboration with Dutch instrument inventor Yuri Landman, the crazy artist responsible for the craziest instruments of Sonic Youth, Liars, Half Japanese and many more. It was built in its current form by Danish luthier Jens Erik Larsen. They brought to life Ignacio’s dream of the quadraphonic electric percussive sound of four sliding metal rods that defy the physics of any bell, bow or heart-beat. Its command rooms to bend and breathe and blow with droning resonance.
